The Future Electrical Machines Manufacturing Hub launched their 1st Feasibility Call on the 1st of August to provide a mechanism for new academic collaborators to engage with the FEMM hub. In the call scope, we asked for proposals that would complement existing FEMM hub research, fill gaps or add cross-cutting activities. We wanted proposals to demonstrate the potential, if feasibility is demonstrated, to significantly improve the UK’s manufacturing capabilities.
We received 11 proposals in total across a broad spectrum of topics, following an extensive review and ranking process the following proposals have been chosen:
- PI: Hamid Assadi, Brunel University London Title: Manufacturing of lightweight structural components for high-performance electrical machines by electromagnetic pulse technology (EMPT)
- PI: Claire Davis, University of Warwick Title: HiPPES – High Performing and Processible Electrical Steels
- PI: Markus Mueller, University of Edinburgh Title: Industrial Manufacture of Marinised Coils – IMMCoil
- PI: Nick Simpson, University of Bristol Title: Additive Manufacturing for Next Generation Functional Integration of Windings and Thermal Management in Future Electrical Machines
